We are currently recruiting graduate teaching assistants for a number of schools across Oldham, with roles starting in September 2025. These are ideal positions for recent graduates who are considering a career in teaching and are looking to gain paid, practical experience in the classroom before beginning teacher training.
As a graduate teaching assistant, you’ll be supporting students across a range of subjects and year groups, working closely with teachers to help deliver engaging lessons and provide targeted support where it’s needed most. In addition to general classroom assistance, there will be opportunities to take on cover supervision duties—managing the classroom in the teacher’s absence—as well as tutoring pupils in your subject specialism, either one-to-one or in small groups.
This is a varied and rewarding role that gives you a real insight into life in schools. You’ll be joining supportive teams with experienced staff who will help you build your confidence and classroom presence. It’s also an excellent opportunity to strengthen your teacher training application, as schools are increasingly seeking candidates with prior classroom experience.
We’re looking for graduates with a strong academic background, ideally with a degree in English, Maths, Science, Humanities or a related subject. A genuine interest in education is essential, along with good communication skills and a flexible, proactive approach.
Key benefits of the role include:
Paid, full-time school-based experience
Opportunities to work across primary and secondary settings
Training and support from experienced school staff
Experience in TA, cover supervision and subject-specific tutoring roles
A clear pathway into teacher training
