Overview

Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Trust is an exciting and forward-thinking NHS Trust focused on delivering high standards of patient care. We aim to recruit compassionate, skilled staff to work within a multi-disciplinary team to support acutely unwell patients and contribute to five star patient care.


Responsibilities

* Deliver safe, dignified personal care, observing patient privacy and confidentiality and supporting rehabilitation.
* Communicate compassionately and effectively with patients and their families, carers and health care practitioners, maintaining confidentiality and using tact, empathy, persuasion and reassurance.
* Work within the scope of your training and competence; know when to ask for help and support from senior staff.
* Follow agreed ways of working, policies and protocols in line with Trust standards.
* Observe, assess and respond to patients needs, escalating concerns to nursing staff as required.
* Organise self in general work tasks or during patient care with supervision where needed from Senior Health Care Assistant and/or nursing staff.
* Undertake personal care duties and activities of daily living (e.g., mouth care, personal hygiene, and toileting) with person-centred care.
* Safely deliver care duties including manoeuvring of patient equipment (hoists, wheelchairs).
* Undertake delegated procedures within the limits of training and competence under the supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner (e.g., moving and handling, personal care).
* Support patients’ feeding, diet and nutritional needs; accurately record intake and output and report changes to nursing staff.
* Ensure patient property is managed in line with Trust policy.
* Monitor supplies and assist with ordering for the department as appropriate.
* Demonstrate duties to new starters and contribute to the learning environment.
* Work in line with Trust policies and procedures; contribute to maintaining a safe, healthy working environment.
* Adhere to duty of care principles, acting in individuals’ best interests to prevent harm.
* Work in partnership with the individual, carers/families and the wider healthcare team.
* Maintain and develop your own skills and knowledge; prepare for appraisal and participate in development activities and team handovers.
