About Charlie
Charlie is 18 and attends sixth form currently in Blackpool. He has a muscle wasting condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This means that he has to use a wheelchair full time and needs assistance with all his care needs.
Responsibilities
* Assisting with getting him out of bed, dressing, toileting, eating, bathing, and putting him to bed.
* Taking him out to where he wants to go, attending hospital appointments, and sitting with him while he games or chats.
* Preparing his food, tidying and cleaning his room, ironing and washing his clothes.
* Undertake full training in manual handling, first aid, personal care and the respiratory equipment he uses.
Qualifications
* Must be over 18.
* Desirable, but not essential, to hold a full clean driving licence as you will be expected to drive a wheelchair‑accessible van.
* Must have a DBS check – we can organise one at no extra cost.
Hours
Hours available are 9.30am – 8.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, with some additional hours particularly during school holidays. A job share will be considered.
Pay & Benefits
Rate of pay is £14 per hour and you receive 5.6 weeks holiday per year pro‑rate.
Personality & Expectations
You need a good sense of humour as Charlie is a funny, witty young person who communicates all his needs and will tell you exactly how he wants things done. He is reliable, friendly and trustworthy.
Additional Information
He enjoys chatting, listening to Radio 2, playing Xbox, taking his wheelchair football seriously, and trying out local pubs. If you want to speak to one of his current PA’s, this can be arranged.
