Position Summary: The Fleet Mechanic Helper (Yardman) is a semi-skilled position in the repairs and inspection of equipment.
Essential Functions:
* The Fleet Mechanic Helper will assist the Fleet Mechanic in all the following duties:
o Responsible for 70 – 100 pieces of equipment per region.
o Assist Fleet Mechanic in Managing Deployment of Equipment across regions, cities and states.
o Possess knowledge of equipment mechanics ranging from as large as a crane to as small as a chain saw.
o Work safely while performing repairs or maintenance on a job site in various weather conditions.
o Assist in troubleshooting in various localities regarding equipment repair, maintenance and deployment.
o Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others while performing job.
o Assist in maintaining company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
o Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
Miniumum Requirements:
* Requires 3 months to 1 year experience in mechanical training or background.
* Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
* Willingness to learn.
* Must have or be able to obtain CDL license.
* Must have own general tools.
* Must be willing to learn while assisting the Fleet Mechanic with the following:
o Hydraulics
o Diesel/gas engine – automatic
o Chassis and suspension
o Welding/metal fabrication
o Small tool repair
* Must know or be able to learn how to use computers for:
o Diagnostics
o Equipment Inventory management
o Work Orders
* Certifications or Experiences in any of the following are a plus:
o ASE certification
o Ford or international certifications
o Altec/Telelect
o Hydraulic maintenance
o Utility or construction jobs
* Understands equipment set up and grounding.
* Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
* Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
* Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
* Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
* Willing to work over-time when requested.
* Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
