Engineering Technician – Baggage
From £41,130 + Shift Allowance + Bonus + Benefits

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including electricity, giant plant rooms, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactionary maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment of the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime. This is a shift-based role, including night and weekend work.
This position supports baggage operations, involving assets like conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT control systems.
What will you do?
* Undertake preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
* Keep engineering and operational records updated per business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
* Support performance improvement activities.
* Ensure safety responsibilities, including PPE, training, and incident reporting.
* Use GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office).
* Develop skills to maintain and operate assets effectively.
* Complete role-specific training.
* Work in passenger and back-of-house areas across the airport.
* Collaborate with team members; no direct reports involved.
Requirements:
* Advanced modern apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic engineering.
* Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering at least ONC Level 3.
* Technical maintenance experience.
* Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical schematic drawings.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines.
* Experience in system performance improvements.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving license.
Interview Process:
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. 1-hour technical assessment with the Engineering Leader and hiring manager.
