Job Overview
The Retail Officer will play a key role in ensuring every visitor receives a warm welcome and excellent customer service. They will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day operation of the site, including managing the retail shop, developing the retail offer, and working closely with colleagues to deliver a first-class visitor journey.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Experience & Operations
* Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the public offer during open days (Wednesday–Saturday).
* Act as Duty Manager, overseeing visitor services, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.
* Deliver a high standard of customer service, handling visitor queries, feedback, and complaints in a professional manner.
Retail Development
* Lead on the development of the new retail offer, ensuring it reflects the organisation's vision, brand, and commercial strategy.
* Source, display, and manage stock, with a focus on locally sourced and unique products.
* Monitor sales, analyse performance, and implement strategies to increase income.
* Manage retail systems, stock control, and cash handling processes.
Resource Coordination
* Recruit, train, and support the retail team.
* Provide ongoing supervision, guidance, and recognition to ensure the team feel valued and engaged.
* Work with colleagues to develop training resources and opportunities to support in delivering a high-quality visitor experience.
Other Duties
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of the visitor offer.
* Support the seasonal activities as required.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties.
Essential
* Experience in retail management or retail operations and merchandising
* Strong customer service skills with a proven ability to deliver an excellent visitor experience.
* Attention to detail to the full offer not just the localised area.
* Experience of supervising or working alongside volunteers or staff.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Confident with financial processes, stock management, and using EPOS systems.
* Flexible approach, with the ability to work regular weekends and occasional evenings.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £26,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 32 per week
