The Avon & Somerset Surveillance Team are looking for a Motorcyclist keento progress their careers within our investigations directorate (CID). This is a permanent, full-time role available to PC/DC. The Avon & Somerset Surveillance Team are looking for a Motorcyclist keento progress their careers within our investigations directorate (CID). This is a permanent, full-time role available to PC/DC. This role is currently eligible for a TVP (Targeted variable payment) of £2000 per annum. Please see below for details.

Avon and Somerset Police is one of the largest forces in the UK, with a reputation of being a pioneering and innovative organisation. In this role you will work in collaboration with senior stakeholders and national and regional colleagues to share best practice and ensure continuous improvement across the organisation.

This is a key assurance and compliance role reporting on the efficiency and effectiveness of systems, processes and procedures across the organisation relating to digital and physical security.

The main responsibilities of this role include: -


* To undertake, engage and be accountable for key decision making in relation to deployment as a Surveillance motorcyclist.
* To perform dynamic risk assessments as the surveillance motorcyclist, whilst balancing the overarching aims of the deployment taking into consideration personal and public safety.
* To conduct foot and vehicle surveillance as part of the surveillance team across the region whist obtaining evidence and intelligence in respect of allocated target packages, ensuring these are obtained in accordance with relevant policy and legal requirement.
* To obtain and execute search warrants under Section 8 and/or search premises as designated by Section 18 (1) and 18 (2) and seize evidence under the provisions of section 19 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
* To develop proactive strategies and tactics leading to the arrest, conviction and or disruption of target criminals.
* To form effective working relationships with Intelligence and Investigation officers to develop intelligence and research to reduce criminal activity.
* To operate photographic and other technical equipment ensuring that all procedures are followed to ensure evidential integrity.
* To assist in the preparation and presentation of prosecution case files and relevant documentation giving consideration to evidential and disclosure issues, including attending court and giving evidence.

Qualifications

* Applicants for this role must already be qualified to perform the role (Q2 and Advanced Police Motorcyclist).

Experience

* Computer literate
* Previous experience of dealing with matters of a confidential nature
* Experience of obtaining evidence and intelligence
* Experience of developing pro active strategies
* Experience of using photographic and technical equipment
* Experience of preparing case files / report writing
* Experience of developing effective working relationships to work together for a common outcome

Additional Information

This vacancy will close on Thursday 7th August at 2pm.

Targeted Variable Payment information

Payments will be made six monthly and will be paid in arrears.

For clarity, this means that from 1 April 2025 until 30 September 2025 you will accrue the first payment, and this will be paid to you no later than your October salary. From 1 October 2025 until 31 March 2026, you will accrue the second payment, and this will be paid to you no later than your April salary. Please note that less than 75% attendance may reduce the payment by half. Attendance less than 50% may result in no payment. Absence or leave relating to pregnancy or maternity will be excluded from any calculation. If you leave the post prior to the 30 September 2025 or 31 March 2026 respectively, you will receive a pro rata payment based on the number of full calendar months that you completed prior to the move. The payment will be pro-rata and therefore adjusted in line with your standard hours worked, with no adjustment for overtime

Vetting and safeguarding

This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a five-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last five years.

Police Barred and Advisory lists

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of five years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or three years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
