Sports Teaching Assistant – Secondary (SEMH Setting)

About the role
We’re looking for a motivated Sports Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in South Shields, supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves sport and wants to use it as a positive tool for engagement and personal development.
What you’ll be doing
* Supporting pupils in PE lessons and across the wider curriculum.
* Using sport and physical activity to build confidence, teamwork, and motivation.
* Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and resilience through structured routines.
* Assisting teachers in lesson preparation, classroom management, and one-to-one support.
* Providing calm, consistent guidance and modelling positive relationships.
What we’re looking for
* A background or qualification in sports, fitness, or coaching (desirable).
* Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs is beneficial but not essential.
* Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
