This 12-month internship offers the opportunity to support and develop the design and manufacture of our superconducting magnets, while making a meaningful contribution to real engineering projects. You will join a collaborative R&D environment and gain exposure to both design and manufacturing activities. You will initially be based mainly at our Eynsham site in 2026, with the opportunity to spend time at our brand-new Bicester facility as it comes online in 2027. This will give you unique insight into how a large‑scale manufacturing business manages the transition of operations while maintaining day‑to‑day delivery.
Alongside your day‑to‑day role, you will take part in our 12‑month Intern Development Programme, designed to build key skills such as communication, teamwork, and commercial awareness.
Responsibilities
* Support the design and development of mechanical aspects of superconducting magnets across disciplines such as structural, dynamic, thermodynamic, and materials engineering.
* Work independently on projects to help improve existing designs, processes, or methodologies.
* Carry out design work, simulations, and experimental activities, analyse results and present conclusions in written reports and team meetings.
* Support production activities on the factory floor and work closely with manufacturing and customer support teams, gaining valuable exposure to how designs are realised in practice.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across R&D and operations.
Application Process
* This may include online assessments and/or on‑demand video assessments.
* Final stages typically involve an interview or assessment centre, which may include group tasks, presentations, or competency‑based interviews.
* Wherever possible, we aim to hold final‑stage assessments in person, allowing candidates to meet the team and learn more about what it's like to work with us.
Eligibility
* Undergraduate student currently studying toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) and seeking a 12‑month industrial placement or sandwich year as part of your degree programme.
Qualifications
* A strong interest in mechanical engineering and the physical and technical world around you.
* Good problem‑solving and analytical skills, with an aptitude for learning new concepts.
* An interest in seeing designs through to manufacture, with a practical and collaborative approach to problem‑solving.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* No prior industry experience is required – we’ll support you as you learn.
