The Tax Specialist is responsible for comprehensive tax compliance and reporting needs of high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, foundations, and related entities. This position focuses on the preparation and review of fiduciary and individual income tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws while delivering exceptional service to attorneys, trustees, and external client firms. The ideal candidate brings technical knowledge, strong attention to detail, and a client-service mindset to a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position reports to the Director of Tax Service. A hybrid schedule is available for this position.

This position focuses on the preparation and review of fiduciary and individual income tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws while delivering exceptional service to attorneys, trustees, and external client firms. This position reports to the Director of Tax Service. A hybrid schedule is available for this position.

Location: Boston, MA

Responsibilities:


* Tax Review & Analysis
o Conduct periodic reviews of assigned fiduciary accounts using the firm’s trust tax platform, analyzing transaction data and account activity to determine proper tax treatment.
o Identify and resolve issues in coordination with supervisors, trust administrators, attorneys, and clients as needed.
* Tax Preparation
o Prepare and file accurate federal and state fiduciary income tax returns, Forms 1099, and beneficiary statements for an assigned group of trusts and estates.
o Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns, including analysis of supporting documentation, estimated tax planning, and correspondence with clients or their advisors.
* Tax Preparation
o Evaluate fiduciary and individual accounts quarterly for estimated tax payment needs. Perform related calculations and prepare required filings.
o Maintain awareness of filing deadlines and ensure timely and accurate submissions in accordance with internal procedures.
* Collaboration & Communication
o Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Tax Services and other team members regarding project status, tax matters, and potential issues.
o Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring responsiveness and professionalism.
* Professional Development
o Participate in regular internal and external trainings to stay current with tax law changes and best practices relevant to private client services.
* Additional Duties
o Contribute to process improvements and other departmental initiatives as assigned.

* 3–5 years of relevant tax experience with fiduciary and individual tax returns in a private client, trust company, or law firm environment.
* Experience with OneSource TrustTax and CCH Axcess required.
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field required.
* Solid understanding of fiduciary and individual income tax principles.
* Ability to interpret and apply relevant sections of the Internal Revenue Code and state tax laws.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong analytical and organizational abilities with high attention to detail.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to quickly learn and navigate firm-specific software systems.
* Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Boston, MA : $77,500 to $114,950

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody’s good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
