Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to provide an effective and efficient secretarial support service to the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful candidate should ideally have a range of secretarial/administrative experience and skills. The department is fast paced and requires the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team, both in a team and independent capacity. The role involves dealing with patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals on the phone and via email, so excellent communication skills and a courteous, empathetic telephone manner are essential. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and experience of proofreading and editing are preferred. We welcome applications from those who meet the essential criteria for this role.
Responsibilities
* Support the Senior Medical Secretaries on a day-to-day basis with admin, typing of letters and overseeing of basic tasks
* Act as a point of contact for clinical and non-clinical staff via telephone and email
* Be a point of contact for patients, relatives and carers; maintain polite and empathetic communication at all times, including in difficult situations
* Return calls promptly and keep callers informed in a timely and effective manner
* Escalate patient queries, capacity issues and general problems to the line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
* Demonstrate a caring and professional approach towards patients, relatives and carers, showing resilience when dealing with distressed individuals
