Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a newly developed role in the OT trauma out-patient service at NUH. The role has been designed to work in partnership with the team leader focusing specifically on clinical leadership and development of the OT trauma out-patient services. There will be a caseload of complex upper and lower limb patients requiring acute management and functional rehabilitation. You will be working in both the fracture clinic and general OT out-patient environments alongside a highly skilled, innovative and motivated team of OT's and the wider MDT. Weekend working is required, a maximum of 1 day in six weekends.
Main duties
Full duties are outlined in the job description and person specification. In summary you will be required to:
* Provide clinical cover as part of the OT trauma out-patients team to fracture clinic and the out-patient follow-up and rehabilitation services
* Assess and treat patients to facilitate recovery and return to function following upper/lower limb trauma using specialist skills including splinting and bracing
* Facilitate a dynamic upper limb rehabilitation service
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team across the in and out-patient settings
* Work alongside MSK clinical specialist to continuously evaluate and develop clinical service provision in line with national standards and guidelines
* Provide evidence based clinical training and development to band 6, junior, support staff and students
* Support team leader in management of the out-patient team including cover of managerial and leadership duties in their absence
* Provide clinical supervision to band 6, junior and support staff
* Participate in student education
* Work flexibly, including late clinic cover and weekends where appropriate

Qualifications
Essential
* BSc Hons (or equivalent) Occupational Therapy
* Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
* Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including MSc or completed modules
Experience
Essential
* Wide ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area or clear ability to demonstrate value of transferrable knowledge and skills to the specialist area
* Knowledge of management processes to be able to provide 1st line management
* Able to evaluate current research and make recommendations for change in practice and implement these changes
Desirable
* Have previously worked in the NHS
Communication and relationship

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to discuss treatment options and recommend best course of intervention to patients and carers using negotiating, persuasive, motivational and reassurance skills
* Communicate complex patient related information effectively to ensure collaborative working with MDT colleagues across health & social care sectors

* Able to reflect and critically appraise own performance and the performance of other staff
* Risk assessment skills for the safe management and discharge of very complex patients

* Able to handle and move complex patients safely and in a way which promotes rehabilitation
* Able to use and/or manoeuvre a range of medical devices including handling/assistive and anthropometric equipment

* Able to travel to required areas within and beyond the Trust
* Undertake out of hours duties (weekends, on calls and Bank Holidays) as required
