The role
As a Senior Architect Subways, you’ll provide technical leadership across major infrastructure upgrades supporting critical defence programmes. Working on complex facilities within a highly regulated environment, you will oversee architectural design delivery, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant and aligned with project objectives.
Day-to-day, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to contribute to the upgrade and refurbishment of essential defence infrastructure, supporting submarine sustainment programmes. You will work at the forefront of engineering and construction, influencing design decisions, improving technical standards and ensuring seamless integration across multidisciplinary teams. This role offers strong opportunities for career progression, leadership development and exposure to major capital projects.
1. Leading architectural input across infrastructure upgrade projects, ensuring technical quality and compliance
2. Providing design guidance and reviewing architectural packages and their integration with multidisciplinary systems
3. Managing design documentation to ensure delivery against scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements
4. Supporting planning and implementation of projects, contributing to technical decision-making and risk management
5. Driving quality, safety and compliance through adherence to governance processes and management systems
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Senior Architect - Subways
6. Experience delivering architectural design within complex or highly regulated environments
7. Knowledge of major infrastructure or marine-based construction projects
8. Understanding of safety, quality and regulatory requirements within defence or high-hazard sectors
9. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design packages and technical interfaces
10. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across project teams
Qualifications for the Senior Architect - Subways
11. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology - Essential
12. Chartered or registered status with a relevant professional body - Desirable

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
