Saint Catherine’s Hospice is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Palliative Medicine. This is due to a planned Consultant relocation. The post will play a central role in the Saint Catherine’s strategy to develop and take forward existing palliative care services for the population served.
The new consultant will be based in Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough and will have defined clinical responsibilities in the hospice itself and in the wider community.
They will be joining at an exciting time for the hospice as in-patient offerings are being expanded and the Wellbeing Centre is being relaunched.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a team comprising of specialty doctors and the hospice has recruited for an ACP position to support the medical team.
Saint Catherine’s Hospice is part of the Yorkshire Deanery Palliative Medicine Training Scheme as well as the FY2 training scheme. The FY2 doctor helps cover the inpatient unit.
The new consultant will assume a position of clinical leadership as part of this team, as outlined in their job plan.
About us
The hospice is an independent charity, which receives approximately 30% funding from the ICB. It opened in 1985 and moved in 2004 to purpose-built premises situated in close proximity to Scarborough NHS Trust.
Saint Catherine’s is the sole hospice for the area and is well supported by the community. It is staffed by a multi-professional team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and pastoral support.

Qualifications Skills Knowledge and Experience
* MRCP or MRCGP or equivalent
* Higher specialty training in palliative medicine
* Full registration with the GMC and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or due to achieve CCT within 6 months)
* Working in an independent Hospice setting.
* Experience of work at strategic ICS, ICB National Level
