The post is for a band 6 Nurse when fully trained. If the applicant doesn’t meet all essential criteria, it will be a Band 5 training position until competencies such as OTE and BASHH are completed.
To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients accessing Sexual Health Services. This includes the assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and care of patients affected by HIV. The role involves informing and advising individuals on contraception methods, including LARC, regardless of age, gender, or sexual orientation, and providing up-to-date sexual health promotion.
Responsibilities include:
* Delivering high-standard patient care as a Sexual Health Nurse Specialist
* Supporting and advising patients to promote sexual health
* Working autonomously at a specialist nurse level within current guidelines and best practices
* Managing personal well-being to perform duties effectively
Additional duties involve assessing, examining, and investigating patients, including microscopy and phlebotomy, managing and treating STIs within expanded practice areas, and working according to Patient Group Directives. The role also includes risk assessments for high-risk individuals, testing, and providing pre- and post-test discussions for HIV.
The role encompasses a public health component, including partner notification, and promoting LARC methods with confidence in Implanon and IUD/IUS insertion and removal techniques. The nurse will provide sexual health services to young people, applying Fraser guidelines and safeguarding policies. Cervical cytology screening and referral processes for abnormal results are also part of the role.
