NOTE: This role is suited to a Principal Level engineer or Senior looking to step into a Principal role. £60-80k (flexible) + bonus + benefits.
This role requires extensive experience in power electronics design aligned with e-mobility (electrified powertrain) applications - land, sea, or air. Engineers should be capable of taking products through the design lifecycle to validated prototypes.
Key elements: Technical leadership, customer-facing skills, and power electronics design and development (electric powertrain systems).
* Design of inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or OBCs for electric powertrain/vehicle applications or clean energy applications (typically from 60V to a few kV). This is essential experience.
* Experience in taking power electronics designs from concept to optimized prototypes, typically for e-mobility/electric vehicle applications, but also including clean energy applications (e.g., inverter/motor controller, DCDC converter, OBC).
* Applications could include automotive, aerospace, marine, defense, and more.
Candidate requirements:
* At least 8-10 years of relevant industry experience or more.
* Strong communication skills, especially in working directly with customers.
* Proven track record in designing power electronics for e-mobility or clean energy applications.
* Experience in designing digital and mixed signal control and interface circuits is advantageous.
* Experience with PCB layout using tools such as Altium.
* Experience with variable speed drives, DC-AC traction motors, PMSM control, DC-DC converters, or OBC is required.
* Degree in a relevant engineering field.
* Ability to lead projects and provide technical leadership.
* Practical engineering skills in hardware development in lab, rig, and vehicle environments.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment.
Additional beneficial skills:
* Experience with system development in simulation environments and HiL systems.
* Experience with thermal management/cooling of power electronics systems.
The role is commutable from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth. Hybrid working is available.
