You will manage a caseload tailored to your experience, ensuring that children and families’ voices are heard and their needs met. You will work with families using the Family Support and Safeguarding Workbook modules and a strengths‑based approach, keeping the Assistant/Team Manager fully informed of key information. Your role will centre on delivering high‑quality services that integrate government and local guidance, including the Children Acts 1989 & 2004, Working Together, local Child Protection and Looked After Children procedures, and the Department of Health Assessment Framework 2000.
Responsibilities
* Plan, carry out and review child and family assessments for allocated families.
* Investigate allegations of harm or neglect under s47 Children Act 1989, when required.
* Prepare and submit written reports (e.g., child protection conference reports, legal reports for care proceedings).
* Maintain accurate case records via ICT, ensuring activity aligns with key performance management data.
* Chair meetings and proactively engage with partner agencies.
* Travel to visit clients and attend meetings across a wide area, often on short notice.
Qualifications and Skills
* Qualified, experienced Social Worker with good working knowledge of services for children, young people, families, carers, groups and partner agencies.
* Solid understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation, guidance, policy and procedures, and principles of FSP.
* Working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and the cycle of change, and their application in social work with children and families.
* Supportive, energetic nature that facilitates effective communication and teamwork.
* Ability to travel widely and on short notice.
