Environmental Health Officer
South-East London
Up to £39.60p/h inside IR35 (DOE)
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Environmental Health Officer to lead on food safety, health and safety, and public health within a dynamic organisation.
This is a hands-on role focused on risk-based inspections, enforcement, and public protection across a range of settings, including food premises, events, housing, and commercial sites within a diverse and multicultural environment.
What the Environmental Health Officer will be doing:
·Conduct risk-based inspections, audits, and investigations related to food safety, health & safety, environmental health, and public health legislation.
·Identify environmental and health hazards, enforcing compliance through notices, legal reporting, and court appearances as necessary.
·Lead or support community health initiatives, environmental projects, and deliver guidance and training to local businesses and residents.
·Respond to environmental incidents and complaints, gather evidence using specialist equipment, and represent the organisation at public meetings and consultations.
What the Environmental Health Officerneeds:
·BSc (Hons) in Environmental Health (or equivalent) with EHRB registration and experience in food safety.
·Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (Food Law Code of Practice, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, public health laws).
·Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively, remain calm in challenging situations, and demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities.
·Flexibility to work outside normal hours if needed, hold a full driving licence, and willingness to travel and conduct unaccompanied site visits.
