Smart Buildings Officer
Support the delivery of our digital building transformation programme and help embed intelligent hospital capabilities across the Trust.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of digital technology, estates, sustainability, and clinical environments, contributing to major programmes including the Site Development Plan, Estate Development Programme, and decarbonisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of Smart Buildings and Digital Estate standards across FHFT projects
* Assist senior estates and project managers in implementing and maintaining smart-building processes
* Ensure digital platform data is owned by FHFT, fully traceable, and interoperable with external systems
* Maintain accurate digital estate models and datasets in line with NHS digital standards
* Carry out routine data quality assurance and completeness checks, logging and escalating non-conformances
* Coordinate digital information across design, construction, and operational phases, including CDE/BIM structures, registers, issue logs, and asset information
* Provide first-line support for smart-building systems and tools (e.g. BMS, CAFM, CDE/BIM), escalating issues as required
* Support information governance and cyber security practices, including access control, backups, incident logging, and identifying DPIA requirements
* Produce user guidance, standard reports, and evidence packs (e.g. ERIC and PAM submissions)
* Work collaboratively with clinical, estates, digital, and supplier teams, translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences
* Contribute to audits, compliance reporting, and Trust programmes such as Estate Development, Future Hospital, and Decarbonisation
* Support energy optimisation and performance monitoring using recognised standards, including BS EN 15232 principles
* Research best practice, promote innovation, and support continuous improvement, ensuring solutions transition into business-as-usual
About You
You will bring strong technical capability alongside the ability to work collaboratively in a complex healthcare environment. You will be confident handling digital estate data, supporting system users, and contributing to multidisciplinary project delivery.
Essential Skills And Experience
* Experience in digital, data, or smart building systems within estates or capital projects
* Knowledge of NHS digital standards, data governance, and cyber security principles
* Experience working with BIM, CDEs, CAFM, BMS, or related platforms
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to communicate technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders
Person Specification
Essential criteria include a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field and willingness to work towards smart buildings officer certification or similar. Desirable criteria include interest in pursuing further training in NHS Digital Estates Systems and Sustainability frameworks and smart building manager certification.
Experience within an NHS setting or large public-sector organisation is highly desirable.
