Job Details
* Job Title: Student Advisor
* Location: Across all main UoGSU sites, with flexible working options
* Department: Student Voice & Advocacy
* Reports to: Advocacy & Campaigns Manager
* Salary: £21,436 pro-rata
* Contract: 0.8 FTE - Part Time
* Hours: Typically 9am-5pm, with some flexible hours to meet union needs
* Working Days: Monday-Friday, to be negotiated
* Benefits: 25 days holiday pro-rata, contributory pension scheme, flexible working including some home working
About The Role
The advice centre will primarily focus on academic advice and appeals but will adapt to changing student needs, often working with individuals with complex situations requiring support to navigate their options.
Advice and Support
* Provide specialist advice and information to students via physical and digital mediums on academic matters
* Support students in referrals to internal and external agencies
* Inform students of their rights and responsibilities within the university
* Assist students at meetings, appeals, and hearings within the university
* Maintain generalist advice skills and knowledge of university regulations, policies, and procedures
* Understand and explore student issues to enable informed decision-making
* Handle referrals from university, self-referrals, and voluntary/statutory agencies
Case Work and Procedures
* Keep accurate records of advice cases using the case management system
* Ensure data compliance
* Promote the advice service and outreach activities
* Communicate effectively with a diverse range of people
* Work independently and use initiative
Reporting and Policies
* Support SU enhancement projects and campaigns
* Gather information for student-led projects and campaigns
* Monitor student case trends to inform policy development
