We are seeking a PDP Lawyer to provide clear, practical and high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad range of local authority matters. The ideal candidate will be confident managing a complex caseload, delivering pragmatic legal solutions, and supporting stakeholders across a large public sector organisation. This position sits within a Professional Development Programme designed to support ongoing career progression and skills development.
Role & Responsibilities
As a PDP Lawyer, you will play a key role within a multidisciplinary legal services team, managing a varied and demanding caseload while contributing to the effective delivery of legal services across the organisation. You will work collaboratively with senior leaders, officers, and external partners, providing expert legal guidance to ensure statutory and governance obligations are met.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
* Providing timely, clear and effective legal advice and representation
* Managing a complex caseload with minimal supervision
* Undertaking advocacy where required in hearings and proceedings
* Advising members, officers, and committees on legal and procedural matters
* Drafting, reviewing and interpreting legal documentation, reports and agreements
* Supporting Monitoring Officer responsibilities relating to legality and procedural compliance
* Managing matters through electronic case management systems within a paper-light environment
* Delivering legal guidance and training to internal stakeholders where required
* Supporting senior legal colleagues and contributing to wider team objectives
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practising certificate
* Experience managing a varied and complex legal caseload independently
* Strong drafting, advisory and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and provide practical legal solutions
* Advocacy experience or demonstrable aptitude for advocacy
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Experience working with digital or electronic case management systems
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
* Experience within local government or public sector legal services
* Experience advising governance, committee or regulatory functions
* Experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues
