Job Purpose
To take a senior leadership role in clinical trials within the University of Glasgow based in the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Excellence in Trials Collaboration (CETC) in partnership with the Glasgow Clinical Trials Units (CTUs).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake a lead strategic role in developing CETC’s reputation as a centre of excellence in clinical trial methodology in partnership with the Glasgow CTUs.
2. Provide CETC leadership in research and publication to enhance the University’s international profile in clinical trial methodology, ensuring high-quality research output.
3. Sustain high-quality research activity, seek and secure funding through grants, including infrastructure funding to support growth and innovation in trials methodology.
4. Lead strategic learning and teaching initiatives, embedding research-led, evidence-based approaches, collaborating on teaching innovations, and influencing policies.
5. Manage and lead academic staff and ensure programs are internationally benchmarked, of high standard, and support a culture of enhancement.
6. Supervise research projects of staff and students, actively engaging with potential research students and supervising to completion.
7. Contribute to university committees and working groups to advance learning and teaching policies aligned with strategic challenges.
8. Build collaborations internally and externally to support staff development, research, and teaching.
9. Represent the university at external bodies and events to promote research and teaching excellence.
10. Demonstrate leadership in knowledge creation and transfer, ensuring external impact and contribution to public understanding.
11. Engage in professional development activities.
12. Perform other duties as required by the Head of School of Health and Wellbeing.
13. Contribute to the university’s international profile aligned with the Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in Statistics, clinical trials, or related field.
* Extensive knowledge of clinical trials and methodologies (adaptive, platform trials).
* Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and regulatory requirements.
* Management experience of a research centre.
* International reputation for high-quality research in the subject area.
* Experience in academic leadership and management.
* Engagement with university/college strategies.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
* Track record of funded research and publications.
Desirable:
* Experience with trial/research support.
* Experience supporting trials across different interventions/disease areas.
Skills
