The Deputy Divisional Medical Director (DDMD) will, as a member of the Divisional Senior Management Team, play an active role in contributing to the strategic direction of the Division and the on-going provision of high-quality services which are safe and efficient. As a senior medical leader within the Division the DDMD will work closely with the Divisional Medical Director (DMD), Divisional Director, the senior divisional leadership team and Clinical Directors and contribute to the overall vision, direction, and performance of the Division with respect to the medical staff and their role in service delivery. The DDMD will work with Clinical Directors to ensure a safe and capable medical workforce operates within each Clinical Directorate and provides the Divisional Director with defined information for assurance purposes. Although the DDMD will have a primary focus and responsibility for children’s services across the division, they will be expected to work across all directorates and deputise for the DMD where necessary. They will also lead on the divisional response to external reviews.

The Deputy Divisional Medical Director is responsible and accountable to the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Director for overseeing the performance of medical staff and their role in service delivery. The DDMD will deputise for the DMD when required but will take specific delegated responsibilities for children’s services provided across all directorates as well as the divisional response to external reviews. They will work closely with the Divisional and Clinical Directors to provide effective professional leadership within the Division. They will also contribute to effective service delivery within the Division in conjunction with the Divisional Medical Director by managing implementation of the following policies.

8. Neurosciences: neurosurgery, neuro-medicine, neuro intensive care, neuro outpatients and nurse practitioner led clinics.
9. Orthopaedics: orthopaedic wards, rheumatology services, day surgery unit for minor injuries, high dependency / recovery unit, bone infection unit.
10. Trauma: Oxford Major Trauma Centre (MTC) network across Thames Valley Trauma Network, poly-trauma, rehabilitation, follow-up clinic for new trauma patients and reconstruction clinics.
11. Specialist Surgery: ear, nose and throat (ENT), plastics and reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial surgery, head and neck, and vascular surgery.
12. Ophthalmology: medical and surgical.
13. Theatres: routine and emergency surgery takes place that includes specialist surgery such as ear, nose and throat (ENT), ophthalmology, plastics, neurology, paediatric orthopaedics, general and maxillofacial surgery, vascular emergencies, spinal surgery, orthopaedics and major trauma.

Children's and Neonates: paediatric neurosurgery, paediatric endocrinology / diabetic medicine, paediatric clinical haematology / medical oncology, paediatric immunology and allergy, paediatric infectious diseases, paediatric respiratory medicine / cystic fibroses, paediatric rheumatology, paediatric neuro-disability, paediatric cardiology, paediatric neurology, paediatric haemophilia, neonatology, paediatric surgery and urology and paediatric intensive care.
