Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. The successful candidate will join the Standards and Engineering team and provide technical leadership to support the delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable assets, while meeting the Agency’s commitments to net zero carbon. Responsibilities
* Influence and shape how the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate delivers electrical engineering services.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support across the organisation as part of the Technical Authority to meet objectives of safety, reliability and sustainability.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules, for high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and control systems within pumps, water management, flood defence and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may require out‑of‑hours commitment.
* Support incident management objectives and participate in related training.
Qualifications and Experience
* Working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telephony / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Proficiency in testing, isolation and proving of high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Understanding of risk‑based maintenance philosophies, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Capability to draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Professional and Licencing Requirements
* Registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the UK Engineering Council or evidence of working towards registration within 12 months.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution.
* UK driving licence.
Work Arrangements
Hybrid role – base location allocated near to your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
