Your Role
The purpose of this role is to provide leadership for the activities of Portsmouth transport, and other designated sites as directed. To ensure legal, Security & Health Safety compliance at all times, to meet any JSP/Civil authority regulations. Achieve the agreed service level and KPIs, whilst maintaining budgetary and manpower targets. To manage the operations through effective day-to-day management and engagement of transport colleagues within Road distribution Portsmouth. To ensure that safety, compliance, service, and cost are competently controlled. The role holder is responsible for creating a positive working environment that supports the delivery of the operation, maintains legal & safety compliance at all times, and meets any JSP/Civil authority regulations and KN Procedures.
Your Responsibilities
1. Conduct regular health & safety, compliance, quality, and environment (QSHE) checks/audits in your work environment.
2. Ensure all visitors and driver colleagues understand their role & responsibilities under the site and KN safety policies.
3. As transport Manager to hold and effectively manage your obligations under your Operator’s licence for Portsmouth.
4. Effectively Manage Fleet compliance and operations in line with company policy and your obligations as the named O’ licence holder. Through inspection, ensure vehicle cleanliness is maintained externally and that internal hygiene is maintained.
5. Complete all safety training requirements for role. Proactively champion a culture of health & safety, colleague wellbeing, care, and an environmentally friendly workplace.
6. Work with your team of supervisors to ensure they and all colleagues in the team have received relevant training and all safety equipment is fit for purpose.
7. Conduct colleague safety observations and hazard reporting. Promptly respond to any safety concerns, unsafe acts and near miss reports raised by employees. Submitting and raising Near Miss, Safety Concerns and Unsafe acts observed while carrying out your daily duties is every colleague’s responsibility.
8. Ensure all colleagues are provide and use the appropriate PPE as per the intended use. Conduct and record three monthly checks on condition and standard of PPE. Arrange for replacement PPE when condition is below the acceptable standard.
Your Skills and Experiences
9. Knowledge of quality, health, safety and environment (QSHE) requirements
10. Experience within an operations environment that demonstrates the capability to build, lead, manage and motivate a team.
11. Strong communication skills both written and verbal at all levels
12. Affective Decision making.
13. Demonstrate leadership, motivational and strong interpersonal skills.
14. Experience of managing a transport operating with specific reference to the movement of Class 1 to 9
15. Strong leadership skills
16. Good customer service attitude and approach
17. Preferable to hold a Manager CPC National Road Haulage Certificate
18. Up to date knowledge of transport legislation
19. Flexible and prepared to work in accordance with the needsof the business.
