Overview
My client are an MEP Contractor who are based in Southeast London and have a company turnover of around £3mil. They specialise in Residential New Builds & Commercial Refurbishment Projects in the region of £50k - £17mil across London & The Home Counties. Due to growth they are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join the team.
The Role – Mechanical Estimator
Monday – Friday / 8am-5pm. You will be office based in Southeast London, producing tenders for Mechanical projects up to a value of £17mil.
Duties
* Tendering & Cost Estimation
o Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical works
o Assess drawings, specifications, and site surveys to determine material, labour, and equipment needs.
o Develop Bills of Quantities (BoQ) or schedules of rates.
o Produce cost plans, budgets, and value-engineered options.
* Bid Management
o Review invitations to tender (ITTs), RFQs, and PQQs to ensure compliance.
o Prepare and submit competitive tender proposals.
o Liaise with supply chain partners for quotations and rates.
o Identify commercial risks and mitigation measures within bids.
* Technical & Commercial Analysis
o Carry out site inspections and feasibility studies.
o Evaluate subcontractor bids and supplier quotations for accuracy and compliance.
o Ensure all costs reflect current market conditions, building codes, and best practices.
o Support cost modelling for reactive and planned maintenance projects.
* Collaboration & Liaison
o Work closely with project managers, contracts managers, surveyors, and procurement teams.
o Provide pre- and post-contract support, including clarification of estimates.
o Engage with clients and consultants to explain cost breakdowns.
* Risk & Compliance
o Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies.
o Ensure estimates comply with health & safety regulations, sustainability goals, and statutory requirements.
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction materials, building regulations, and industry standards.
* Leadership & Mentoring
o Guide junior estimators and assist in their professional development.
o Establish best practices in estimating, cost tracking, and bid submissions.
o Lead estimating efforts for high-value or complex fabric service projects.
* Typical Outputs
o Cost estimates and tender submissions.
o Budget forecasts for planned and reactive fabric maintenance.
o Risk registers and commercial assumptions.
o Supplier and subcontractor cost analysis reports.
o Value-engineering proposals.
Salary & Package
£50k - £60k (DOE)
