Applications are invited for a Medical Secretary to provide support to the Perinatal Service, based at Daisyfield Mill in Blackburn. The role will include providing remote cover for the Doctors and utilising a range of technical skills, including word processing, email, other IT skills, audio tape transcription and medical/pharmacological terminology.
The Secretary will also be expected to employ highly effective interpersonal and communication skills and will be required to work frequently without direct supervision. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded and the particular sensitivities to mental health issues respected.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly in response to the needs of the Network and cover for absent colleagues when and where necessary for short periods of time such as annual leave and short‑term sickness across various sites; travel may be necessary.
Main duties of the job
The medical secretary is a key member of the Mental Health Network, Perinatal Service. The post holder will assist in the provision of effective and efficient services by providing comprehensive professional secretarial and administrative support to consultants, junior doctors, trainee doctors and students, liaising effectively wherever necessary with other team members and external agencies.
The medical secretary will also be expected to provide support to the MDTs which take place each week and to cover for annual leave and sickness for colleagues.

* Educated to Diploma level or equivalent
* RSA III or equivalent word processing
