Jasmine Lodge is an inpatient Mother and Baby unit supporting women with acute Perinatal mental illness within the first year of their baby's life. We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Nursery Nurse position to join our team. As a Nursery Nurse working here, you will be an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team working closely together to provide 24/7 holistic care for mentally unwell Mums and their Babies.
You will have recent experience and a sound working knowledge of baby care and development from 0-12 months. You will work alongside mothers to model and support them in caring for and engaging with their baby, sharing your knowledge of best practices and safe care. An understanding of infant mental health and the ability to advocate for the infant are essential. Safeguarding is a core part of your role, including making referrals when appropriate or escalating through the internal safeguarding team.
Responsibilities include:
1. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of caring effectively for infants under 1 year and use this knowledge to educate and guide colleagues on the Mother & Baby Unit, including advice around feeding, weaning, sleep, play, and development.
2. Ensure current practice and care reflect standards as outlined in the Trusts Safeguarding Policies and Devon Safeguarding Children Board Procedures, engaging with specialist safeguarding services when necessary.
3. Observe, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of care and interventions for infants on the unit.
4. Support and empower the development of parent/infant bonding and attachment through engagement, activities, and play.
5. Assist in managing and organizing workload as required.
6. Assist with clinical duties for all mothers within the Mother & Baby Unit.
7. Use modelling and evidence-based practice to enhance knowledge and skills of mothers and staff in caring for infants.
8. Contribute to developing standards of care for mothers and babies, providing feedback and implementing necessary changes.
