Streets Scheme Designer: Senior Consultant
We are seeking an experienced individual with a streets design and case-making background for our UK-based team (London, Manchester or Leeds). This opportunity offers the right candidate the chance to grow their career and to positively influence how urban streets are defined and prioritised for the future.
Overview
The team undertakes a portfolio of high-profile studies focused on urban streets within a specific area or corridor, aiming to develop solutions that enable healthier and more efficient movement while recognising the street as a place. Projects are typically for clients such as Transport for London, Transport for Greater Manchester and local authorities in these areas and beyond.
Responsibilities
* Manage transport planning and design studies, drawing on project management skills, technical knowledge and analytical ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams that include internal and external subconsultants
* Provide clients with the best advice by integrating work from team members (including traffic modelling outputs or design drawings) into high-quality deliverables that uphold the company’s reputation for excellence
* Liaise effectively with clients and other external stakeholders
* Prepare reports and deliver presentations tailored to varying audiences
* Manage project budgets with effective financial control
* Prepare competitive proposals for transport planning studies
* Demonstrate a strong grasp of the societal, economic and political contexts of transport, including awareness of regional policies such as Healthy Streets in London and Streets-for-All in Manchester
* Apply analytical tools and techniques appropriate to each project, understanding strengths, weaknesses and data sources
* Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, tailoring messages to non-technical audiences (public and politicians)
* Take responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously and manage competing deadlines
* Collaborate with colleagues across the team to achieve successful project outcomes
Requirements
* Hold professional and academic qualifications in transport planning, engineering or a related field
* Solid ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Experience in a balance of technical areas (e.g., engineering and/or modelling) and understanding of societal, economic and political contexts of transport
* Experience in project management within multi-disciplinary teams
* Ability to manage budgets and contribute to business case development
