The Role:
The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a five-year project between Portsmouth City Council, University of Portsmouth and HIVE Portsmouth, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). It aims to develop collaborations and research that help to understand the impact of local health inequalities, and to ensure that research is a key component of Portsmouth City Councils' decision making around public health.
As part of the wider HDRC team, you will support the collaboration, development, and management of cross-sector research projects. You will be the initial contact point for University of Portsmouth academics who are looking to collaborate and develop research projects with the HDRC partners. We're looking for a confident facilitator who can guide discussions, foster collaboration, and support learning across diverse subject areas. You don't need to be the subject matter expert—we value your ability to create space for others to contribute, ask the right questions, and help teams unlock their own insights. Experience in coaching or mentoring others, especially in cross-functional or unfamiliar domains, would be welcomed. This role will facilitate the development of research teams and monitor their progress.
There may be opportunities for you to successfully develop and manage you own collaborative research project and related activities of your own, or on behalf of the HDRC Academic Lead. Part of your role will involve liaising and networking with colleagues from University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth City Council, HIVE Portsmouth, local and national funding bodies, and other relevant community members and professionals.
A key part of the role requirements is a methodical approach to record keeping and supporting the HDRC Academic Lead in the administration of the wider HDRC. If you are engaged in a research project you will need skills in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies including research design, research project management, and analysing and interpreting research data. You many also be involved in writing academic articles for research journals and material for publications contributing to the growing research culture in the HDRC and School of Education, Languages and Literature.
