Our payroll service provides HR and Payroll services to Hackney Council and commercially traded services with a number of external customers.

As a member of the Payroll Service, you will provide an efficient and effective payroll support and administration service to the Council, Traded Services, including Schools and Teachers.

As Payroll Officer you will provide a customer-focussed service to every customer whether internal or external and ensure that issues are resolved on the first occasion wherever possible.

You will assist in the delivery of the Payroll service by responding to a wide range of enquiries from employees, managers and external organisations, ensuring the accurate maintenance of employee HR and Payroll data and the processing of all payroll-related procedures to ensure that all payroll outputs are delivered on time in a quality-controlled environment.

In this role you will input payroll data into the Midland HR System (ITRENT) in accordance with statutory and contractual obligations and the pre-defined processing deadlines set by the Payroll Manager. This will include staffing changes and amendments to employee information in compliance with Council Policies and HMRC legislation. You will also be responsible for the input, calculation and recording of Maternity, Paternity and Adoption payments both statutory and occupational.

The successful candidate will:

– Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of excellent customer relations and high-level customer service skills to actively manage the expectations of managers.

– Have attention to detail to ensure accuracy of documents issued and data recorded.

– Deal with conflicting demands whilst maintaining a high level of customer care to managers and service users.

– Have experience in supporting Payroll, Pensions or HR services through administration and the provision of information to others.

– Have experience of resolving customer queries/problems related to payroll matters and providing advice; taking the initiative to progress solutions.

– Have demonstrable experience and knowledge of processing a range of transactions using HR/Payroll/Pensions systems.
