Senior Business Development Manager


Salary: £45,000 per annum plus bonus


Discretionary Incentive Scheme: Through the discretionary incentive scheme, you have the opportunity to earn up to 20% above your basic salary.


Contract: Permanent


Hours: 40 hours per week

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Business Development Manager To proactively drive corporate and MICE enquiries and revenue by promoting and selling all aspects of the hotel and conference centre across local and national markets. The position is responsible for growing the share and profitability of existing corporate accounts, developing strong relationships with key booking agencies, travel management companies, and securing new business and partnerships.


What you’ll be doing


Strategic Planning


* Supporting and driving the Hotel’s five-year commercial action plan and overall company vision.
* Supporting in the preparation of the Hotel’s annual budget in areas of responsibility.
* Continuously develop and align sales strategies to meet evolving market conditions and business objectives.
* Research and secure new partnership opportunities that drive revenue and strengthen the hotel’s brand presence.
* Conduct competitive market analysis to gather intelligence on local and national business trends, rates and emerging opportunities.


Driving Sales and Customer Relationships


* Take full ownership of delivering the hotel’s proactive sales strategy across the MICE, corporate and the groups market.
* Actively seek, identify and convert new and repeat business opportunities across corporate, MICE, group, tour operator and wholesale sectors.
* Work with the Director of Commercial during RFP season to ensure accurate and timely submission of all required data and rates.
* Build, manage and nurture strong relationships with key accounts, agencies and partners to maximise market share.
* Conduct proactive outreach – including research, telesales, scheduled appointments and weekly face-to-face sales calls – in line with agreed activity targets.
* Prepare detailed account development plans to maximise share from top-performing accounts and booking agencies.
* Plan and execute domestic and international sales trips to major feeder markets and represent the hotel at key travel trade events, exhibitions, and networking forums.
* Develop strategic affiliations and partnerships within the local area to raise brand profile and engagement.
* Maintain and strengthen customer relationships through client entertainment and on-site hospitality, recognising and rewarding loyalty.
* Collaborate with hotel leadership and key team members to foster strong community relationships and enhance local engagement.
* Undertake sales activities and initiatives as directed by the Executive Team or Board, aligned with the hotel’s commercial goals.
* Research and secure industry accreditations in line with the company’s strategic growth objectives.
* Lead by example in conversion excellence, account management, and service recovery.
* Actively promote the hotel through industry associations and professional networks.


Team Leadership


* Lead, coach and develop the proactive sales department to achieve exceptional results.
* Oversee recruitment, training, and performance development within the proactive sales team.
* Foster a sales-driven culture across all departments, encouraging engagement and accountability for enquiry generation.
* Design and deliver sales training initiatives, ensuring all team members can identify and pursue sales leads effectively.


About you


You should have least Minimum of four years’ experience in a senior sales role (DOS or BDM role) within the hotel industry with strong knowledge of the Birmingham corporate and MICE market and a proven track record of delivering commercial results through proactive sales strategies and client relationship management. You must also be highly self-motivated, driven and results orientated, with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
