We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Gas Safety Manager (GSM) to support the implementation of JSP Procedures. Reporting to the Head of Technical, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance, safety, and continuous improvement across Mitie's defence businesses. Developing and maintaining a strong, collaborative relationship with the Mitie Group, Health and Safety Regulatory Bodies, DIO and will be key to this role.
You will support Responsible persons (Gas) across business units ensuring that the procedures are implemented.
Main Duties
* Serve as the central authority for managing, implementing, and reviewing Gas safety case procedures.
* Oversee and maintain the integrity of DIO JSP375 via working groups across both procedures.
* Prepare and distribute technical bulletins promoting safe practices and effective management within Mitie.
* Monitor industry developments and ensure Mitie remains at the forefront of sector changes.
* Deliver technical support and communicate effectively, tailoring explanations for non-technical audiences.
* Ensure operational teams are promptly informed of critical updates, including legal changes, new standards, and notices from manufacturers or suppliers, maintaining governance and a thorough audit trail of subsequent actions.
* Develop specific solutions for technical issues, mitigate future risks by sharing lessons learned and best practices across the portfolio.
* Develop and/or approve documentation to be utilised by Mitie employees when undertaking operations.
* As a qualified subject matter expert, perform root cause analysis of incidents, accidents, or failures involving management, planning, engineering systems, and equipment to prevent recurrence.
* Engage with the broader team and consult other key experts when multidisciplinary investigations are necessary.
* Conduct audits to verify compliance with Mitie's Gas and JSP Process, review relevant legislation, British Standards and manufacturer literature.
* Analyse complex audit data sets to identify trends and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Produce SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time‑bound) action plans based on audit outcomes.
* Participate in continuing professional development, training, and development opportunities to ensure your expertise stays aligned with evolving laws, guidance, industry requirements, and safety alerts.
* Assess and, when appropriate, recommend the appointment of personnel in line with DIO and Mitie's Appointment process.
* Report any deficiency in RP numbers that may affect site coverage, system functionality, or adherence to safety case, and provide recommendations and corrective actions to address identified deficiencies.
What we are looking for
* NEBOSH General Certificate or Level 5 Diploma in Health & Safety.
* Hold or working towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or a Chartered Health and Safety practitioner.
* Previous appointment as an Authorised Person.
* HNC/HND in Engineering or Built Environment or equivalent.
* Holmes for Lean 6 Sigma – QHSE Investigations or equivalent.
* BSI Lead Auditor qualification.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in SSOW environments and technical experience working in the facilities management industry.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and internationally, with travel, hotels and expenses covered.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, complex business environment.
* Experience of managing Gas networks in accordance with JSP 375, Volume 3, Chapter 8.
* Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
* Proactive problem‑solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with the ability to complete root cause analysis and utilise data to identify deficiencies, trends, and opportunities.
* Be proficient in undertaking assessments and audits of personnel and processes using technology.
