The AP tutor (at home) plays a vital role in re-engaging students with learning, supporting their emotional wellbeing, and helping them achieve academic and personal success.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching & Learning
2. Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs, often across multiple subjects.
3. Use creative and flexible approaches to overcome barriers to learning.
4. Assess, monitor, and report on pupil progress regularly.
5. Support
6. Build trusting relationships with pupils, many of whom have experienced trauma or disruption.
7. Support pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural development.
8. Work closely with parents/carers to foster a supportive home-school partnership.
9. Behaviour Management
10. Implement consistent behaviour strategies rooted in empathy and restorative practice.
11. Promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment.
12. Collaboration
13. Work with a Social workers, and external agencies. Liaise with Parents, carers and guardians.
14. Contribute to EHCP reviews, reintegration plans, and transitional support.
15. Safeguarding
16. Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures.
17. Be alert to signs of vulnerability and act promptly to protect pupils.
Person Specification:
18. Essential
19. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
20. Experience working with children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs
21. Strong behaviour management skills
22. Resilience, patience, and a genuine passion for inclusive education
23. Desirable
24. Experience in alternative provision or special education
25. Training in trauma-informed practice or therapeutic approaches
26. Ability to teach across a range of subjects
