The Role
Permanent band 6 Charge Nurse post to manage Philipshill ward within the QENSIU. This national unit cares for patients with spinal cord injury, providing rehabilitation and preparing patients for discharge after a SCI. We seek an experienced registered nurse with current NMC registration and significant post‑registration experience at band 5 level, passion for rehabilitation, and strong leadership skills.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* Base location is Queen Elizabeth University Hospital – National Spinal Injuries Unit
* Permanent contract
* Full‑time position
* Shift pattern – rotational days and nights; 11.5 hrs Monday‑Sunday
Key Responsibilities
* Assess care needs and design, implement and evaluate programmes of care to ensure high‑standard delivery.
* Assume full accountability for daily ward operations in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse, including staff allocation, work deployment and supervision.
* Set, monitor and evaluate standards of care, ensuring compliance with ward and division policies, procedures, standards and protocols.
* Consult with the Senior Charge Nurse to maintain safe working practices across the multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and team members to meet patient needs.
* Lead, supervise and mentor junior staff and students, providing advice and ensuring their educational development.
* Provide teaching to registered/non‑registered nursing staff and support staff personal development plans.
* Organise workload to meet patient interests and ward objectives.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse on the NMC Register.
* Recognised post‑registration course and/or leadership training.
* Five years post‑registration experience, with at least two years within neurosurgery or equivalent.
* Proven managerial and clinical skills.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Involvement in quality improvement initiatives.
