Stockport Foundation Trust is one of four ‘specialist’ hospital sites in Greater Manchester. Being a ‘specialist’ hospital will enhance our general surgery, anaesthetics, critical care and emergency medicine for the benefit of people in Stockport, High Peak, Cheshire and across Greater Manchester.

The post holder has a key leadership and specialist role at a senior level to support the organisation in the delivery of care for cancer patients and their families. This will be in accordance with thephilosophy andstandardsofcare within the specialty,ensuringthat Trust values and beliefs are upheld. In addition, the Specialist Nurse has a fundamental role in leadingon thedevelopmentand theeffectivedeliveryof specialistcancernursing to reflectthe evolving health care agenda.


Main duties of the job

· In conjunction with the Head of Nursing, Lead Cancer Nurse and Matron, will deliver the modernisationagendawithintheirclinicalsetting,includingeffectiveleadership, monitoring,and maintaining professional and care standards, work collaboratively, manage complaints as per Trust policy and lead the specialist nursing contribution to the governance agenda.

· Provideleadershipthatpromotespatientfocused care.

· Leadonthedevelopmentanddeliveryof cancereducationandtrainingforpatientsandstaff, relevant to specialist nursing practice.

· Provideclinicalleadershipandlinemanagementofstaffifappropriate,ensuringthedeliveryof the highest professional standards through staff development and individual performance appraisal/review.

· Maintainpersonalstandardsofconductandbehavior,whichareconsistentwithTrustand Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and requirements.

· Activelycontributeto,andsupportagreeddevelopmentswithintheBusinessGroup,relevantto specialty

· Actaskeyworkerswithinagreedtumorspecificprotocols,leadingonpatientandcarer communication issues and co-ordinate the patient pathway.

· ProvideexpertnursingadviceandsupporttootherHealthCareProfessionals (HCP)

Qualifications

* Current NMC Registration
* Evidence of completion of relevant courses appropriate to the clinical area
* Evidence of Masters level study or willingness to work towards with organisational support
* Evidence of post registration education in Cancer/Tumour Speciality or willing to commence within 6 months of commencing in post
* Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards with organisational support
* Advanced Communication skills training or willingness to undertake
* Psychological level 2 training or willingness to undertake.
* Non-Medical prescribing or willingness to work towards with organisational support where appropriate for the clinical service
* Leadership/Management Qualification.
* Clinical Examination Skills level 7.


Knowledge

* In depth expert knowledge appropriate to speciality.
* Knowledge of cancer terminology, pathways and Treatments
* Working knowledge of the current national NHS Cancer agenda.


Experience

* Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above within cancer/palliative care/speciality.
* Experience of multi-professional working.
* Experience mentoring/supervising others.
* Experience of managing change.
* Experience of contributing to audit and research.
* Leadership and management experience.
* Previous experience working at a Band 7 level.


Skils and abilities

* Ability to work autonomously and as part of an effective MDT.
* Ability to plan, organise, prioritise and delegate effectively and support staff.
* Exemplar effective verbal and written communication skills. and able to support people with life changing news
* Ability to interpret data and utilise to improve practice.
* Ability to support, encourage and motivate others.
* Ability to effectively communicate with the Senior Leadership Team
