The role
We are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a flagship section of the HS2 project in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role on one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing are embedded throughout project delivery.
Working closely with operational and functional teams, you will provide visible leadership across site activities, support the delivery teams and drive a proactive safety culture across a complex, multi-contractor environment.
The Role
As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for providing expert advice, assurance and leadership across the project, ensuring compliance with legislation, client requirements and company standards.
You will work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors and senior stakeholders to continuously improve safety performance and champion best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture across the project.
Provide professional support and guidance to operational and functional teams.
Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations and industry guidance, including CDM requirements.
Undertake inspections, audits, assurance activities and leadership tours across site operations.
Lead incident investigations and implement robust corrective and preventative actions.
Monitor, analyse and report on safety performance, trends and key metrics.
Present health and safety performance updates to senior management teams.
Build strong relationships and effectively manage multiple subcontractor and contractor interfaces.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and drive best practice throughout project delivery.
Act as a visible leader, promoting behavioural safety and high standards across all project activities.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong background delivering major infrastructure or complex construction projects.
Essential Requirements
Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
NVQ Level 5/6 (or equivalent qualification and experience).
NEBOSH Construction Certificate and/or Diploma.
Detailed technical knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
Minimum of 7 years' Health & Safety experience within construction or an equivalent sector.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Health & Safety Manager position.
Experience working on major infrastructure, civil engineering, rail, highways, utilities or large-scale construction projects.
Proven experience managing multiple subcontractors and contractor interfaces.
Strong experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
Experience undertaking audits, inspections, assurance activities and leadership tours.
Ability to present safety performance and trends to senior leadership teams.
Demonstrable experience providing leadership and support to operational and functional teams.
Full UK Driving Licence
