Summary:
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a reliable and professional Driver to join the Environment & Housing team within the Operational & Support Services division. This role involves the safe and efficient transportation of personnel, equipment, and materials as required by service demands. The ideal candidate will play a vital part in supporting daily operations that contribute to environmental services and housing functions, ensuring community services are delivered effectively and on time.
Responsibilities:
* Operate Council vehicles in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner in line with road traffic laws and Council procedures.
* Transport staff, tools, equipment, refuse, or other items related to Environment & Housing services.
* Conduct daily vehicle checks, maintain cleanliness and report any defects promptly.
* Assist with loading and unloading items, ensuring secure transportation.
* Complete route sheets, vehicle logs, and basic paperwork as required.
Requirements:
* Full, clean UK driving licence Category B essential; Category C1/C (LGV) desirable.
* Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) preferred for LGV roles.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE level or equivalent desirable).
* Proven experience in a similar driving or logistics role, preferably within a local authority or public service setting.
* Familiarity with vehicle checks, defect reporting, and basic record-keeping.
* Experience in working in a team-based operational environment.
* Knowledge of safe manual handling techniques and workplace health and safety.
