Salary £47,800 - £59,000 (depending on experience)

About the role
We have two exciting opportunities to join our Wastewater directorate, supporting delivery of our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP) so our wastewater infrastructure stays fit for the future. You'll help shape our long‑term strategy, bringing complex data together to tackle wastewater challenges while meeting environmental and regulatory expectations.
As a Strategic Planner, you'll work in close collaboration with Technical Policy Managers, Wastewater Driver Leads, Asset Planners, and other key stakeholders - integrating their inputs to ensure our DWMP meets stakeholder requirements and supports business objectives across the short, medium and long term. You'll also engage with external partners, such as local authorities, to identify shared risks and develop sustainable approaches that work for our customers, communities and the environment.
We have two Strategic Planner roles available with complementary specialisms: one focused on wastewater networks with experience in hydraulic modelling (sewers, rivers, and surface water) to support flood risk reduction and capacity planning, and the other on wastewater treatment processes to drive performance, compliance, and long-term investment planning. If you meet most of the criteria, are passionate about the environment, and eager to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
About you
If you enjoy problem solving and have experience in planning, then we want to hear from you.
The successful candidate will be confident working with technical data, turning it into clear insight. In addition, you will understand how to assess risk, develop evidence-based solutions, and think strategically over short-, medium- and long-term horizons.
You'll make informed decisions, work independently, and manage competing priorities — all while keeping sight of the bigger picture.
It's important you're a strong communicator as you'll engage with a range of stakeholders, explaining complex information.
You may have a relevant degree or accreditation, however it's more important that you can think critically and work collaboratively.
