Overtime: x1.5 after 8 hours per day

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technician specialising in traction motors on Class 66 locomotives to join our Service Centre in Birmingham.
In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, overhaul, rewinding, repair, and testing of traction motors, with a strong focus on rail applications and locomotive equipment. You will also support mechanical fitting activities and work on a range of rotating electrical machinery.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality, safety-critical engineering work within a busy workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Dismantle, inspect, overhaul, rewind, reassemble, and test traction motors used on Class 66 locomotives
Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults on traction motors and associated equipment
Carry out incoming inspections to determine condition and serviceability
Record detailed data relating to motor specifications, testing, and condition
Prepare, repair, and inspect reusable components to required standards
Operate workshop equipment including:
Winding machines
Test panels and surge testers
Core loss testers
Ovens, grinders, cranes, and lifting equipment
Hand tools and brazing equipment
Complete all job documentation accurately, including photographic records
Ensure all work is completed to rail industry quality and safety standards
Identify and report defects, failures, and warranty issues promptly
Accurately complete timesheets and material requisitions
Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping, and compliance

Experience & Qualifications
Recognised apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machine Repair/Rewinds, or equivalent
Proven experience working on traction motors or heavy rotating electrical equipment
Ideally experienced with Class 66 locomotives or similar rolling stock
Strong background in dismantling, rewinding, assembling, and testing motors
Experience within a rail, heavy engineering, or industrial workshop environment
Good understanding of health & safety practices
