In addition to your aquatics responsibilities, you’ll also serve as a summer bunk counselor — living in a cabin, caring for campers, and being a positive role model every day.
As an Aquatics Team Member & Bunk Counselor, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our campers safe in the water, building their confidence, and helping them develop lifelong aquatic skills, all while creating unforgettable bunk memories.
Aquatics Responsibilities
* Lifeguard at the pool and during lakefront activities.
* Teach and lead kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and canoeing.
* Supervise and engage with campers during daily free swim in the lake.
* Support the Aquatics Director in maintaining safety protocols and equipment.
Bunk Counselor Responsibilities
* Live in a cabin with campers (ages 7–16) and provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship.
* Create a safe, supportive, and fun bunk environment where campers feel at home.
* Lead and participate in camp traditions, evening programs, and special events.
* Be a role model by bringing energy, responsibility, and care to both bunk life and camp programs.
What We’re Looking For
* Current lifeguard certification (or willingness to get certified before camp).
* Experience in lifeguarding, swimming instruction, or boating is a plus.
* Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring kids.
* Positive, flexible attitude and strong team player mindset.
* Housing, meals, & laundry included
* Internship credit available: Paid internships and support for school requirements/projects are available.
Additional Benefits
Being on staff at Mah-Kee-Nac is more than just a summer job — it’s an experience of a lifetime. You’ll grow personally and professionally, gain teaching and leadership skills, and make a lasting impact on campers’ lives. Plus, you’ll enjoy friendships, adventures, and access to amazing facilities, including a fitness center, athletic fields, and our beautiful 372-acre lake. Staff also enjoy daily time off and access to a staff lounge with Wi-Fi and entertainment.
