Job summary

We are looking for a highly enthusiastic and skilled chief cardiac physiologist (in cath lab and pacing) to join our team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be cross-site for both Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex Hospital sites.

The post-holder will provide highly specialised professional expertise in the environment of the Cardiac Cath Lab and Physiologist-led pacemaker/device follow-up clinics. They will also act as a resource within the technical cardiology service and provide expert, specialist advice within this area.

Main duties of the job
* To be able to perform a broad range of clinical-technical investigation procedures and interventions in the Cardiological field to a highly competent professional standard.
* To possess specialist practitioner knowledge and skills in Cath Lab and Pacing and to help manage the pacing clinics.
* To assist the Lead Cardiac Physiologist in the various sections of Cardiac Services in providing the routine Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical services when necessary.
* To perform complex pacing clinics including home monitoring and of undertake a range cath lab procedures
* Play a major role in the training and continuing professional development of staff and student

Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical

* The post holder will provide highly specialised professional expertise in the environment of the Cardiac Cath Lab and Physiologist-led pacemaker/device follow-up clinics. To act as a resource withinthe technical cardiology service and provide expert, specialist advice within this area.
* To perform a range of standard and non-routine complex investigations as requested by clinicians,these will include brady, tachy device clinics (ICD, CRTP and CRTD), in cath lab this will involve basic diagnostic coronary angiogram and complex coronary intervention procedures including PCI, CTO,pressure wire, IABP (balloon pump) and IVUS studies. To also be able to perform left and right heart catheterisation independently.
* Analyse complex information that may be technical and/or clinical, using current scientific opinion and own discretion to interpret and make decisions on how best to act.
* Using advanced knowledge and skills to optimise performance of complex and basic pacemakers and internal defibrillators, to best suit the patients individual needs while ensuring maximum patientsafety and comfort.
* The post holder would be expected to deal with any outcome during or after the test, this could include resuscitation.
* To assist in emergency procedures which will include acute PCI transfer from A&E to cath lab
* To act as a specialist in the field, giving professional advice as necessary.
* The post holder should have an interest in performing Tilt tests, with the aim to become proficient in preforming these investigations.
* The post holder must have experience in all standard cardiac investigations performed within a cardiac physiology department.
* The post holder must be able to supervise stress tests and is expected to be competent to deal with any outcome that may arise as a result of the investigation.
