Location - Hub Laboratory, Taunton (Essential Service Laboratories Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District hospital)
Hours:37.5 hours per week
Salary:£63,958 - £74,319 + performance bonus scheme + £5000 relocation and £10,000 welcome bonus
We are seeking an experienced, driven and inclusive Leader to join our laboratory team at Southwest Pathology Services (SPS) as a Service Delivery Manager.
You will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory which takes a leading technological approach including state of the art third generation Kiestra Total Lab Automation for Microbiology culture and Digital slide scanning and Cerebro Tracking system in Histology.

Main duties of the job
Reporting to theGeneral Manager (GM), the successful candidate will be accountable for managingthe workforce, operational performance, budget, and strategic planning forInfection Science and Cellular Pathology across our three sites in Taunton andYeovil.

The Service Delivery Managerwill play a key leadership role in maintaining an inclusive workplace culture,driving productivity, continuous improvement, and operational excellence withintheir areas of responsibility.

Job responsibilities
Be an active member of the SPS SeniorLeadership Team to support long term objectives of the service includingskills gap analysis, workforce development and succession planning.
Provide senior leadership and support forall staff within designated service areas.
Be responsible for the delivery of SYNLABand SPS objectives within designated service areas, maintaining a clearstrategic direction.
Manage teams, including delivering allaspects of people management, such as recruitment, performance management,absence management, learning and development, employee health and wellbeing.
Address key workforce issues, includingrecruitment and retention and training and development.
Ensure all staff have clear SMARTobjectives linking to SYNLAB and SPS objectives.
Develop a culture of innovation anddevelopment and encourage effective succession planning and talentmanagement.
Ensure clear lines of communication to allstaff and ensure a culture of listening and support, responding in a timelyway to issues of staff morale and support requirements identified.
Responsible for ensuring there isappropriate capacity and capability planning to ensure all aspects ofoperational service performance can be consistently delivered to achieve keyperformance indicators, including upscaling for new services or business.
Plan and organise the work schedules toensure necessary cover is provided to meet turnaround times and qualityobjectives including organising temporary resource where necessary.
Manage out of hours rota, adjusting asnecessary to ensure the continued provision of a laboratory service 24 hoursa day if required.
Support junior employees in theirscientific expertise, knowledge and professional development.,
Work with SPSs Training Manager anddepartmental training leads to ensure appropriate competency training isdelivered, including supporting induction, training and competency sign-offof new employees in own area.
Have oversight of the provision oftechnical and operational training and be responsible for ensuring specialisttraining is delivered to scientific and support staff and other healthcareprofessionals.
Provide regular updates to GM, includingsubmitting Operational Performance data and present at relevant meetings
Participate in the strategic developmentand service improvement of the analytical service, working with the PrincipalBiomedical Scientists/Advanced Practitioners on the implementation of newtechniques, equipment, and tests, including all verification and validationwork.
Embed a culture of continuous improvement;ensuring the culture also supports the reporting of near misses and raisingof concerns. Through open and visible engagement with staff at all levelsensure all staff within diagnostic laboratory production know how to reportissues and will be accountable for the appropriate handling of matters raised
Ensurecompliance with all regulatory and quality requirements of regulatorydirectives, accreditation bodies, and local management including:
o CareQuality Commission
o UKAS
o SYNLABpolicies and SOPs
oAny other body in area of responsibility.
Develop, and regularly review relevantdocuments, in line with the ISO 15189 standard and where necessary proposepolicy and service changes.
Support in the development andimplementation of Business Continuity and Serious Incidents Plans wherenecessary for your service line(s).
Demonstrate professionalism, patience and empathy whenexplaining complex subjects, and in particular when communicating with peoplewho do not share same level of knowledge or understanding.
Maintain standards of conduct required by SYNLABand the HCPC to practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist.
Attend, and chair regular departmentalmeetings and ensure effective communication within the department and acrossthe service line.
Responsible for liaison with MaterialsManagement Team to ensure thereconciliation of delivery notes with purchase orders;ensure appropriate stock levelsand equipment within the units are maintained.
Support SYNLAB commercial endeavours byproviding accurate costings for laboratory procedures and commercial trialsand contracts.
Take part in CPD activities to ensure thatyour practices and knowledge are always relevant and up to date to yourspecific area.
Be an ambassador for Diversity, Equity andInclusion.
Communicate and role model the values andbehaviours of SYNLAB.
Safety
To observe safety regulations and attend mandatory fire,manual handling and other courses as required.
Report all incidents and adverse events to managers and assistin the investigations of any incidents.
To participate in risk assessment monitoring.
To comply with SYNLAB policy for annual mandatory updates andhave knowledge of COSHH and Lifting and Handling Policies.
Person Specification
Experience
* Evidence of extensive people management responsibility. Able to evidence appropriate use of formal procedures.
* Leadership qualities with experience of coaching, co-ordinating and managing a team
* Line management including all aspects of people management, for example recruitment and rota management
Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) IBMS accredited degree or equivalent
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* Specialist portfolio in relevant discipline or equivalent experience (if HCPC Registration via IBMS Portfolio route) or FIBMS
* MSc, FIBMS or equivalent experience in a similar role
* Evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
* Management Qualification equivalent to ILM Level 5 or above ( or evidence of equivalent management training)
