OCU Connect is seeking an experienced HV Fitter to work across various locations in Leeds and Sheffield.
As an HV Fitter, you will be responsible for leading electrical fitting tasks, maintenance activities, and equipment repairs on the Electrical Distribution Network. Your role will involve utilizing your technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure the efficient operation of electrical plant and equipment, adherence to safety standards, and the timely completion of maintenance and installation tasks.
You will need to:
* Install electrical equipment in distribution substations.
* Perform wiring and cabling activities on new equipment, including building wiring, lighting, earthing, and protection multicore cabling.
* Lead and perform electrical and mechanical fitting tasks, such as assembly, installation, disassembly, and alignment of machinery and components according to drawings and specifications.
* Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments for assembly and adjustment of mechanical components.
* Conduct routine maintenance inspections and preventive activities to identify and address mechanical issues.
* Diagnose electrical faults and perform repairs to restore equipment functionality.
* Troubleshoot electrical problems using diagnostic tools and technical documentation.
* Analyze equipment performance data and conduct tests to diagnose and optimize performance.
* Safety and Compliance:
o Follow safety protocols and regulations, conduct risk assessments, and maintain a safe work environment.
o Maintain records of maintenance activities and prepare reports on inspections and equipment performance.
o Provide guidance and training to junior fitters and apprentices.
o Promote teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
To be successful, you will need:
* Proven experience as a HV fitter or electrical technician, ideally 2 years, with exposure to DNO or Substation environments.
* Strong electrical aptitude and skills in reading drawings, using tools, and performing assembly tasks.
* Good knowledge of electrical systems.
* Understanding of safety regulations and procedures.
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Relevant vocational qualifications or apprenticeships in electrical engineering or related fields (desirable).
