The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and operating a secure, scalable, and modern Microsoft cloud environment, with a strategic focus on Azure as the organisation’s primary cloud platform. The role combines operational management of the Microsoft 365 estate with hands‑on Azure engineering, supporting the ongoing migration, modernisation, and expansion of cloud and hybrid services. The successful candidate will ensure Microsoft 365 remains stable, secure, and well‑governed, while actively contributing to the design, build, and optimisation of Azure infrastructure, identity, and security services. Working closely with infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders, this role plays a key part in our digital transformation by improving cloud resilience, strengthening security posture, enabling automation, and supporting the transition toward Azure‑based platforms and services. Key Responsibilities Azure (Primary Focus – Strategic Direction) Design, implement, and operate Azure cloud solutions aligned to business and security requirements. Engineer and administer Azure Entra ID, including Conditional Access, MFA, identity governance, and Zero Trust controls. Manage Azure IaaS workloads, including virtual machines, storage, RBAC, monitoring, and cost optimisation. Design and support Azure networking, including VNets, NSGs, DNS, private endpoints, and hybrid connectivity. Implement and maintain Azure security controls, working with Defender, identity protection, and governance tooling. Support hybrid cloud services, including on‑premises to Azure integrations. Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to integrate cloud services and improve platform capability. Microsoft 365 (Foundational Platform – Operational Excellence) Administer and support Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and core Microsoft 365 services. Implement and maintain Intune for Windows, iOS, and Android, including compliance and configuration profiles. Operate Microsoft 365 security and governance controls, including Conditional Access, Purview DLP, Identity Protection, and Defender for Office 365. Troubleshoot complex issues across identity, devices, and collaboration services. Support user lifecycle management, group management, and licence allocation. Work closely with Azure identity and security services to maintain a unified cloud security posture. About You Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience 3 years’ experience in cloud infrastructure engineering or a related role. Strong, proven experience as a Microsoft 365 Engineer or Administrator. Demonstrable hands‑on Azure experience in a production environment. Experience working in hybrid environments (on‑premises and Azure). Exposure to Agile working practices. Skills Strong understanding of identity‑driven security, Conditional Access, and Zero Trust principles. Proven troubleshooting skills across Microsoft 365, identity, endpoints, and Azure services. PowerShell skills for automation, administration, and reporting. Good working knowledge of networking, security, and compliance in cloud environments. Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Behaviours & Mindset Security‑first mindset with a desire to improve standards, governance, and processes.
