Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) Location: Gateshead, NE8 Job Type: Full-Time | Continental Shift Pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) Shift Premium: 22.5% Salary: £48,300 (Inc. 22.5% Shift Allowance) Overtime: Regularly Available (1.5x Mon-Sat 2.0x Sun) An established heavy engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) to join its Engineering Department. The organisation operates within the steel processing sector, supplying a variety of plate products to major industrial markets. The successful candidate will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong communication skills and a proactive “can-do” approach. They will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to ongoing training and development. Adherence to strict Health & Safety standards is essential. Key Responsibilities Carry out maintenance on plant and equipment, including both reactive breakdown work and proactive planned preventative maintenance. Support installation, commissioning and upgrades of new and existing equipment. Diagnose faults systematically and identify root causes, reporting findings to relevant personnel. Work safely at all times in line with company procedures, permits, lock-off systems and safety protocols. Assist in health and safety improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Communicate effectively with engineering colleagues, shift leaders and other internal departments. Ensure effective shift handovers and report any non-conformances. Record maintenance activities accurately and use technical documents, manuals and drawings as required. Collaborate with subcontractors when necessary. Perform any additional duties as required by the business. Person Specification Essential: ONC/OND/HND/HNC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical or Maintenance Engineering. Experience in: Electrical fault finding Heavy engineering or similar industrial environments Installation and fault finding on AC/DC motors Working with single and three-phase supplies Ability to: Manage time and prioritise workloads effectively Work independently and within a team Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing Preparedness to work at height.
