Overview

We have an exciting new opportunity at PCE for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial QS Team.


Contract and Location

Contract: Permanent, Full time
Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire (Head Office)
Reports to: Commercial Manager

Travel

Whilst predominately based at PCE’s Head office in Tamworth Staffordshire, the role will require travel to PCE’s construction sites across the UK.


Responsibilities

* Oversee, support and develop a team of quantity surveyors.
* Ensure that the business objectives are adequately cascaded to the team and that the surveyors are adhering to the business commercial procedures.
* Involvement with projects at an early stage, support the estimating team when required, along with pre-construction and post contract duties from procurement through to supporting the commercial delivery and final account negotiation.
* Minimise risks to ensure the successful financial completion of projects.
* Support the team with managing disputes / claims.
* Progress reporting and financial analysis of live projects.
* Develop a thorough understanding of the designated project specifications, pricing structures, programmes, and contractual conditions.
* Review and assist with the negotiation and agreement of the Client/Main Contractor contract documentation in conjunction with the Commercial Director.
* Assist other departments with pre-start planning and programming.
* Assist with supplier/subcontractor selection, analysing competitive offers, and ensuring appropriate skill set.
* Place supplier/subcontractor orders ensuring all required information for smooth execution.
* Responsible for Supplier/Subcontract commercial management including variation accounts and processing of requests for payment.
* Attend external and internal project related meetings, recording all actions, agreements and any unresolved matters.
* Track progress by internal departments and external suppliers in relation to agreed project programmes.
* Manage day to day company cost control, monitoring and reporting systems, recommend and implement improvements with the Commercial Director.
* Change management control – identification, communication, costing and resolution of changes to PCE’s agreed scope.
* Analyse internal reporting systems, design, procurement and construction, providing feedback to Directors.
* Provide advice on commercial and contractual matters, review and draft correspondence.
* Measure, value, submit and negotiate contract variations with client and supply chain.
* Communicate and liaise with client regarding commercial matters, produce necessary information and substantiate valuations, final accounts and retention releases.
* Complete monthly cost / valuation report and cash flow for each project.
* Communicate regularly with PCE project staff to ensure controls are understood and followed.
* Manage direct reports to ensure their understanding of requirements, performance, targets and training.

Required Skills

* Strong commercial and financial management within construction projects.
* Proven experience across the full project lifecycle (pre-construction to final account).
* Solid understanding of contracts (e.g., JCT/NEC) and negotiation.
* Experience managing subcontractors, procurement and supply chain.
* Ability to manage variations, change control and project risk.
* Confident in cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow management.
* Experience handling claims, disputes and final account negotiations.
* Strong leadership skills with experience developing and supporting teams.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
* Proactive, professional and solutions-focused approach.
* Acts with professionalism and integrity always.
