An exciting opportunity exists in the Council’s Waste & Cleansing Services for a Clinical Waste Driver working from our Depot at Newton Bar, Wakefield.

What will be expected from me?

The postholder will be required to demonstrate that they have the following skills, knowledge and experience:-

1. To be an ambassador for the Council when dealing with all stakeholders, customers and have excellent communication and inter-personel skills.
2. To deal with conflict situations.
3. To be self-motivated and can motivate others.
4. To have a good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
5. The ability to assess problems and provide practical solutions.
6. To have the ability to prioritise conflicting demands.
7. To display good numeracy and literacy skills.
8. To have the ability to multi-task and display a flexible working approach.

What I might be doing?

The post holder as part of their roles and responsibilities will:-

9. Drive various LGV / Non LGV Vehicles.
10. Lead a small operational team.
11. Carry out daily vehicle checks, and FTA vehicle compliance.
12. Deliver clinical waste sacks and sharps containers to the designated service users
13. To collect clinical waste from designated establishments / properties and to transport in accordance with the carriage of dangerous goods legislation to the designated disposal point.
14. To evaluate the clinical waste being collected ensuring that it is in the correct packaging and is legally compliant. Where clinical waste is not compliant the appropriate course of action must be taken to ensure there are no breaches of regulations .

Essential requirements:

15. Current clean LGV Driving Licence (category C1). The Licence to show no more than 6 penalty points as per current national driving penalties system.
16. Driver Certificate of Professional Competence qualification (DCPC).
17. ADR Licence (refresher required every 5 years)

What can I expect?

18. This is a full-time post of 37 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday)
19. 2 hours contractual Overtime per week.
