HCL is a leading contract caterer focused on delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to children and staff across primary, secondary, and commercial sites. We’re passionate about making food a positive part of every child’s educational experience.
The Role
We’re looking for a commercially driven and passionate Business Development Manager to lead our growth strategy across London and the South of England, while boosting customer retention in Hertfordshire and neighbouring areas. You’ll play a key role in expanding our reach, creating compelling tender packages, and representing HCL at key industry events.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and manage a pipeline of new business opportunities
* Drive customer retention through referrals, CRM and networking
* Raise brand awareness and represent HCL to potential clients
* Manage budgets and resources aligned with sales strategy
Menu & Marketing Support
* Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Marketing to shape menu and promotional offers
* Help design themed food days and cuisine concepts that excite students
* Promote best-in-class nutrition standards across all age groups
* Lead tender responses with impactful presentations and financial packages
* Engage stakeholders including school leaders, parents, and consultants
* Ensure tender submissions meet deadlines and deliver the ‘wow’ factor
Presentations & Communication
* Deliver persuasive sales pitches and represent HCL at industry events
* Act as the face of HCL, demonstrating our value to new and existing partners
Closing the Deal
* Collaborate with the Head of Sales & Growth to craft winning proposals
* Analyse feedback to refine offers and boost win/retention rates
* Work with Operations to retain key expiring contracts
What We’re Looking For
* A dynamic commercial expert passionate about feeding children well
* Proven experience in food sales and tender-led business development
* Results-driven with a ‘hunter’ mindset and strong financial acumen
* Confident presenter with excellent communication and networking skills
* Skilled in CRM, MS Office and tender processes
* Highly organised and capable of working independently to meet deadlines
