Overview
Band 3 Radiology Assistant post based at the Worcester site and the Alexandra site with rotation to Kidderminster Treatment Centre. There is also a requirement to support other sites countywide to support the service as required. This could include Princess of Wales Hospital, Bromsgrove, Malvern Community Hospital and Evesham Community Hospital.
This post provides an opportunity to support a wide range of disciplines within the Radiology department including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, ED, and outpatient/inpatient imaging departments. For suitable candidates we actively encourage role extension with a career progression pathway through to Radiographer. The role involves weekend, Bank Holiday and out-of-hours shifts. Enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to work without direct supervision with a willingness to learn are essential.
Responsibilities
* Work as an integral part of the Radiology team, providing a high standard of patient-centred care and liaising with patients, consultants and Radiology colleagues.
* Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals, delivering information with empathy and discretion.
* Cannulate patients for examinations and support aseptic technique for Radiographic procedures.
* Maintain knowledge of Radiology exams/procedures and aftercare to ensure safe delivery of practice.
* Assist with moving and handling, ensure patient comfort, explain procedures, and support patients during imaging.
* Use the Radiology Information System and contribute to smooth department operation.
* Stock control and procurement of equipment, consumables, and linens as required.
* Participate in infection prevention and control, safety procedures, and safeguarding policies.
* Participate in personal development and mentorship of learners where applicable.
* Register patients, update records, bookings and other RIS activities; maintain accurate records.
* Follow Health and Safety, Radiation Protection and IRMER policies; escalate concerns as needed.
* Be aware of emergency procedures, initiate basic life support when necessary and summon a crash team if required.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Good basic education (GCSE/O Level) with grade C or above in Maths or English.
* Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
* Essential experience: Use of Microsoft Office; experience in a clinical hospital setting; experience of working with people.
* Desirable: Experience within an Imaging Department; ability to perform venipuncture.
